BlueVector is a contract mechanical design and CAD engineering practice serving small and medium manufacturers. We turn sketches, sample parts, and legacy drawings into production-ready SolidWorks models and fully dimensioned drawings a shop can quote and build from the first time.
As a design partner, our services include 3D CAD modeling, 2D drafting and GD&T to ASME Y14.5, design-for-manufacturing reviews, sheet metal and weldment design, reverse engineering, FEA validation, and fixture and tooling design (see our services).
Our work has supported machine shops, fabricators, product companies, and automation integrators across the Industrial Equipment, Consumer Hardware, Metal Fabrication, and Robotics industries. BlueVector specializes in parts that have to be made right — clean parametric models, drawings that hold up on the shop floor, and a designer who thinks about the fixture and the fab time before the geometry is locked.
On past projects we've reverse-engineered obsolete components from worn samples, rebuilt bolted assemblies as true weldments with accurate cut lists, and taken rough concepts to manufacturable sheet-metal designs handed straight to a laser-and-brake shop for a clean first article.
Every engagement runs under NDA, with a fixed quote agreed up front and direct access to the engineer doing the work — no offshore relay and no outsourced draftsman you never meet.
Engineering
CAD Design. Parametric parts and assemblies built in SolidWorks with a clean, editable feature tree — so the next revision is a two-minute change, not a rebuild. Configurations, large assemblies, and design tables where they earn their keep.
Mechanical Design & Drafting. Fully dimensioned manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 — datums, geometric tolerances, weld symbols, tolerance stack-ups, and notes that let a shop quote and machine without a single clarifying email.
Reverse Engineering. A worn legacy part, a hand measurement, or a mesh from a 3D scan becomes a clean, fully parametric CAD model and a drawing you can re-order from any qualified shop for years.
Analysis & Validation. Static stress, deflection, and factor-of-safety checks in SolidWorks Simulation — so you find the weak rib or the over-built plate on the screen instead of on the shop floor.
Services
3D CAD Modeling — parts, assemblies, configurations (SolidWorks)
2D Drafting & GD&T — production drawings to ASME Y14.5
Design for Manufacturing — cost and producibility review before you cut metal
Sheet Metal & Weldments — flat patterns, bend tables, cut lists, DXFs
Reverse Engineering — scan-to-CAD and legacy part reconstruction
FEA & Design Validation — static stress and factor-of-safety checks
Product & Concept Design — mechanism studies and prototype-ready geometry
Deliverables: native SLDPRT / SLDASM / SLDDRW, dimensioned PDF prints, editable BOMs, plus STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG, and STL for any CNC, laser, waterjet, molding, or 3D-print vendor.
Sample Projects
Weldment Frame, Redrawn for Fabrication. A fabricator had a bolted-up steel frame that kept coming back wrong. We rebuilt it as a true SolidWorks weldment with an accurate cut list, weld callouts, and a clean drawing — cutting shop questions to near zero and tightening fit-up on the next build.
Obsolete Part, Reverse Engineered. A component with no drawing — only a worn sample — was measured and rebuilt into a fully parametric model with a dimensioned print, so the client could re-source it from any CNC shop instead of chasing a single supplier.
Sheet-Metal Enclosure to Production. A rough concept for an electronics enclosure became a manufacturable sheet-metal design with correct bend reliefs, flat pattern, hardware callouts, and DXFs — handed straight to a laser-and-brake shop for a clean first article.
Details generalized to respect client confidentiality. Portfolio samples relevant to your industry are available on request under NDA.
